A Review of Mind Magic by Marta Hiatt

I had mixed feelings about Mind Magic – Techniques for Transforming Your Life by Marta Hiatt.

I truly appreciated Hiatt's reminders about the important role the subconscious mind plays in our lives. In the simplest of terms, our innermost thoughts are reflected in our conscious daily lives. When we subconsciously think negative thoughts, this is reflected in our “outer” lives.

Hiatt does an excellent job in explaining how the subconscious mind affects they way we feel. The great news is, by changing our subconscious thoughts, we can how we think on a conscious level. To accomplish this, Hiatt outlines a plan for self-hypnosis.

I'm was skeptical about about the whole self-hypnosis thing. Nonetheless, I was willing to give it a try. Hiatt's instructions were simple enough to follow, mostly involving a lot of deep relaxation techniques. I doubt I ever succeeded in attaining self-hypnosis, but I did get some results as a result of trying to contact my sub-conscious while in a highly relaxed state.

Mind Magic also delves into topics like visualization and the Law of Attraction, though I'm not sure Hiatt used that exact term. While all these subjects are of interest to me, I didn't really find anything new or profound in Hiatt's coverage of them.

Let's Make a Movie!

A Note from Adele Park:  Rick Mizuno and Radhaa Nilia have a great story idea they would like to bring to the silver screen.  The name of their screenplay is "Can You Still Love Me."  Here is a synopsis of the story and ways you can help Rick and Radhaa make this film a reality.

Can You Still Love Me a provocative love story. Does the past matter? Two lovers struggle with the ugly truth as secrets of the past threaten to tear them apart.
Genre: Drama/Romance – Synopsis – Geoff and Nicole are in love celebrating their 1st year of dating. Everything is perfect until Nicole’s phone rings, but she won’t answer it. Moments pass, phone rings again and again until Geoff answers the phone. Immediately the caller is irate, demands to talk to Nikki (Nicole). Geoff demands answers but the call abruptly ends. This ignites a firestorm of questions from Geoff. Nicole breaks and reveals the caller was a pimp. Geoff becomes mean and nasty; Nicole reacts in kind until Geoff is forced to leave. Hours later Geoff returns trying to make-up. Nicole wants no part of him. Demands he leave and never come back. In desperation, Geoff reveals his guarded secret once having an ongoing affair a call girl who became pregnant with his baby. He denied the baby insisted she get an abortion and never saw her again… nor knew what became of his baby. Nicole and Geoff are broken and vulnerable desperate to know... Can You Still Love Me?

The subject matter of this compelling story is very real because many of us have something in our past that we never want revealed, yet until such things are confronted we may never be fully free to love and to be loved. This heartfelt story takes a dramatic look at how two people handle shame, regrets, pride and love.

Filmmakers Radhaa Nilia (Director) and Rick Mizuno (Producer & Screenwriter) have launched a 30 day Crowdfunding Campaign to raise $15,000 to turn this engaging story into a short independent film for the film festival circuit. Through the festivals they believe it will lead to the interest and the backing to turn Can You Still Love Me into a feature film.

The script is ready… the crew is ready… and with your support our goals will be achieved.

Review of Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

If you're in the mood for a thrilling “who done it,” I would highly recommend Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

The story is about the murders of the Day Family who were brutally slayed in their Kansas home. Seven year old Libby Day escaped the massacre which her 14 year old brother, Ben, was convicted of doing. The action takes place 25 years later when Libby begins to question whether her testimony against her brother was really true.

In need of money, Libby joins up with a “kill group” interested in the murder. Libby's quest to arrive at the truth while earning some money on the side has her re-visiting some very dislikable characters including her own father. Everyone involved in the story has a secret past, leaving the reader to suspect each one of the murders. This is what makes the story so compelling.

Dark Places is equally as thrilling as with Flynn's best selling novel, Gone Girl

Gone Girl was turned into a hit movie starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike and just this month Dark Places was released with Charlize Theron heading up a star studded cast

Prior to writing these bestselling novels, Flynn worked at Entertainment Weekly, doing reviews for top movies around the globe. To learn more about Flynn, visit her website:

I gave Dark Places 4 out of 5 stars on my Goodreads page

Flynn's website says she's busy playing Ms. Pac-Man in her basement lair. One can only hope that while Flynn is down there she spares a few minutes to write another novel!
