My Review of Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
I don't read a lot of non-fiction, but books by Jon Krakauer are an exception. That's because Krakauer is an expert on making true stories read like a novel. Like many of Krakauer's books, I could hardly put down Into the Wild http://www.amazon.com/Into-Wild-Jon-Krakauer/dp/0385486804 I am not a mountaineer, but I was fascinated by Krakauer's account of Chris McCandless, a well-educated young man who walked into the wilderness near Mt. McKinley and never returned. McCandless viewed himself as a modern day aesthetic, eschewing all worldly possessions as he set out to live off the land http://www.christophermccandless.info Sadly, McCandless did not survive his ordeal in the harsh Alaska wilderness, likely dying of starvation.
